Buying art as a gift: original and affordable

⏱️ 5-minute read

You're looking for a gift for someone you truly want to give something special to. Not something forgotten in a week. Not something three other people have already given. Something that lasts, that has meaning, that is visible every day.

An original painting is that gift.

But how do you approach it? What does it cost? And how do you know what the other person likes?

Why art is the perfect gift

An original artwork is by definition unique. Only one copy exists. That already makes it special, but there's more.

Art is personal without being intrusive. You give someone something that enriches their space, that suits who they are, that they see every day. It doesn't disappear into a drawer, nor is it discarded after a season.

And it says something about you as the giver. That you've put thought into it. That you've chosen something not from a list.

The best reactions I receive are from people who received a piece as a gift. Not bought for themselves, but chosen by someone who knows them well enough to know what fits. That's a special feeling, for both the receiver and the giver.

What does an original painting cost as a gift?

More than a bouquet of flowers, less than you might think.

At KOJO Art, original works in the Affordable Art collection start at a few tens of euros and go up to a maximum of €50. These are unique, hand-painted acrylic works. No prints, no reproductions. Truly original.

Larger original paintings on canvas cost more, depending on size and execution. For a special gift for a birthday, anniversary, or graduation, it's an investment that will bring years of joy to the recipient.

Budget under €50?

The Affordable Art collection offers original acrylic works for up to €50. Unique, handmade, and a gift that truly lasts.

How do you know what the other person likes?

This is the question that stops most people. And it's a fair question.

A few pointers:

Look at their interior. Which colors dominate? Is it minimalist or eclectic? Warm or cool? A piece that matches what's already there feels like a logical addition, not an odd one out.

Think about their personality. Someone who loves peace and quiet will suit calm compositions and earthy tones. Someone who loves energy will suit more expressive works with more color and movement.

Just ask. Not directly, but subtly. Send a link to the collection and ask what they like. Or ask me for advice; I'd be happy to help based on what you tell me about the recipient.

Opt for a gift voucher. If you really don't know what fits, a gift voucher is an honest choice. The recipient chooses for themselves, and the surprise lies in the amount and the thought.

For what occasions does art work as a gift?

Almost always, but a few moments are especially suitable:

Birthday. Especially for someone who already has everything. An original piece is something they would never buy for themselves but would appreciate every day.

Graduation. A new chapter, a new home. Art for their first own home is a gift that moves with them.

Anniversary or wedding. Something for together, for their shared space. A piece that suits both and reminds them of a special moment.

Housewarming. A new home calls for new art. And an original piece is a much more personal choice than a standard housewarming gift.

Christmas or Sinterklaas. For those you truly want to give something that won't disappear into a drawer.

How do you give art as a gift?

Practically speaking, there are a few options:

You order the piece and have it delivered to your address so you can wrap it yourself and present it. Original works are carefully packaged and arrive safely.

You order the piece and have it delivered directly to the recipient, with a personal message included. Contact me if you'd like that, and I'll arrange it.

Or you choose a gift voucher, which the recipient can redeem themselves for a piece of their choice.

Would you like to have a piece delivered with a personal message? Send me a message and I'll make sure it's perfect. From packaging to card.
