Collection: Figurative. | Original

Figurative art that balances recognition and interpretation. Each piece in this collection is hand-painted by me, Jordy Koumans, in my studio in Tilburg. In acrylic or oil paint on canvas, signed, dated, and delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

What is figurative art?

Figurative art uses recognizable shapes, figures, or objects, unlike purely abstract art. But recognizable doesn't mean literal. In my figurative works, I combine recognizable elements with abstract techniques. Silhouettes, suggestive forms, movement. Enough to recognize something, enough to see something of yourself in it.

That's the power of figurative art on the wall: it invites interpretation without losing the viewer. There's an anchor point, but the meaning is personal.

Figurative works often originate from a feeling or a memory of a shape for me. Not a photo I want to replicate, but an impression I want to capture. The result is always something between recognition and surprise.

Figurative painting for your living room

Figurative art adds a human dimension to a space. It draws the eye, sparks curiosity, and gives the living room a story. At the same time, it is versatile enough to fit into modern, eclectic, and artistic interiors.

Living room. A figurative painting as a statement piece above the sofa or on a prominent wall gives the room character and gives guests something to talk about.

Hallway or entrance. The first impression of your home. A figurative work on the wall immediately sets the tone and makes it clear that someone with taste and their own story lives there.

Study or office. Figurative art keeps the mind active. A work with movement or tension in the composition makes the space more vibrant.

Frequently asked questions about original figurative art

Are these original paintings?
Yes. All works in this collection are original, hand-painted paintings in acrylic or oil paint on canvas. Each work is unique and one of a kind, no reproduction or print.

What is the difference between figurative and abstract art?
Figurative art uses recognizable shapes or figures. Abstract art works purely with color, form, and composition without recognizable representation. In my figurative works, I combine both: recognizable elements with abstract techniques.

What materials do you use?
Acrylic paint or oil paint on canvas. Acrylic paint offers vibrant colors and a fast drying time. Oil paint is known for rich texture and deep color layers.

How are the works shipped?
Carefully packaged with corner protectors and bubble wrap. I ship worldwide and you will always receive a track & trace.

Can I commission a figurative painting?
Please contact me via the contact page. I would be happy to discuss a work that suits your wishes, space, and taste.

Does figurative art fit in a modern interior?
Absolutely. My figurative works are contemporary in nature and fit perfectly into modern, minimalist, and eclectic interiors. The balance between abstraction and recognition makes them versatile for wall display.
