My first exhibition: KOJO Art in the Terpkerk in Urmond

⏱️ 6 minute read

There are moments in an artist's life that you never forget. Moments when something that long only existed on canvas finally gets to enter the world. For me, that moment is this August: I'm exhibiting for the first time.

From August 1st to 2nd and August 8th to 9th, 2026, my works will be on display at the Terpkerk in Urmond, as part of an exhibition organized by IKP Maasvallei. Urmond is located in the municipality of Stein, in the heart of South Limburg, a stone's throw from Maastricht and the Belgian and German borders. A region with a rich cultural history, and a place where I will present my work to the public for the first time.

✦ Practical information

Location: Terpkerk (Terpkerkje), Urmond, municipality of Stein, Limburg
Dates: August 1 and 2, 2026 and August 8 and 9, 2026
Organization: IKP Maasvallei
Admission: Free
Artist present: Yes, I will be there myself

How it started

I've been painting for years, but KOJO Art as a brand is something I've consciously built. Not as a gallery, not as a collective, but as the name under which I, Jordy Koumans, paint and sell. Every work I create is a direct translation of what I see, feel, and think, expressed in color, form, and composition.

My work moves in the tension between color field painting and abstraction. Earthy tones, geometric calm, breathing planes. I am fascinated by the silence a painting can contain, by the way color can change a space without saying a single word.

I work from Tilburg, but my work finds its way to people throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and far beyond. This exhibition in Limburg feels like a beautiful full circle: art that travels the world online, now also physically visible in the region.

"A painting is only finished when it has found the wall it was made for."

IKP Maasvallei: art in the region

IKP Maasvallei is an organization dedicated to visual arts and culture in the Maasvallei region. They bring artists and the public together in special locations in the area, with a focus on accessibility and connection between art and community.

Being part of this program as KOJO Art feels like a confirmation. Not only of the work itself, but of the direction I have chosen in recent years.

The Terpkerk in Urmond

The location says a lot. The Terpkerk, also known as the Terpkerkje, is a historic building in the heart of Urmond. Urmond is a village in the municipality of Stein, located along the Meuse in South Limburg, a short distance from Maastricht, Sittard and the border with Belgium and Germany.

It is precisely the kind of place where art comes into its own. Not in a white, sterile gallery, but in a space with history, with character, with light that falls differently than anywhere else. I look forward to seeing how my work relates to that environment.

What to expect

At the exhibition, I will present a selection of my original works. Acrylic and oil paintings that I have created recently. No reproductions, but real, unique works on canvas, each with its own story.

Some originated from a specific color experience, others from a composition idea I had been carrying with me for months. I would love to tell you more about them if you come by.

In addition to the original paintings, I will also bring a selection of my Affordable Art collection: original, hand-painted acrylic works for max. €50. Art that is accessible, without compromising on authenticity. For those who want it, there will also be a number of premium art prints available.

Who is this for?

For everyone who loves art, but also for people who have never consciously looked at a painting. I believe that abstract art doesn't have to be difficult. It's about feeling, about recognition, about the way a color affects you.

Are you an art lover in Limburg, Maastricht, Sittard, Geleen, or just across the border in Belgium or Germany? Then this is an excellent opportunity to see and buy original art, directly from the artist. No intermediary, no gallery. Just me, my work, and a conversation if you wish.
