Art Markets and Art Fairs in the Netherlands: the best of 2026

⏱️ 7 minute read
An art market or art fair is one of the most direct ways to discover art. The barrier to entry is low, the atmosphere is open, and the artist is right there next to their work. No reservation, no feeling of not belonging. Just art, people, and unexpected conversations.
The Netherlands has a rich tradition of art markets and art fairs. And in 2026, the offering is greater than ever. Whether you're looking for a large international event or an intimate local market: there's always a place nearby where you can meet emerging artists, discover new works, and perhaps take home something that will stay with you for a long time.
In this blog, I'll take you through the best ones this year. And I'll also tell you where you can find me.
The major art fairs in the Netherlands
The Netherlands boasts several renowned art fairs that return annually and form the heart of the Dutch art market. These are the events where galleries, collectors, and art lovers come together.
Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam
The Affordable Art Fair is one of the largest and most accessible art fairs in the Netherlands. Hundreds of artists and galleries present works with a maximum price of €5,000 — but many pieces are available for just a few hundred euros. The fair is intentionally designed to be low-threshold: no intimidating atmosphere, but an environment where you can browse at your leisure, ask questions, and discover what appeals to you. An excellent starting point for anyone serious about beginning to buy art.
PAN Amsterdam
PAN Amsterdam is one of the most prestigious art and antique fairs in the Netherlands. Every November, the fair opens its doors at the Amsterdam RAI, featuring a carefully curated selection of galleries and dealers from both the Netherlands and abroad. The offerings range from old masters and antiques to contemporary art and design — always of high quality, always worth the visit. PAN is not a place for bargain hunters, but for those who take art seriously and want to see what is being created and collected at the highest level.
KunstRAI Amsterdam
KunstRAI is one of the oldest and most renowned art fairs in the Netherlands. Galleries from home and abroad present works by both established names and emerging talents. The atmosphere is more professional than an art market, but the fair is accessible to anyone interested in contemporary art. For those who want to understand where the Dutch art market is heading, KunstRAI is a must.
Art Rotterdam
Art Rotterdam is one of the leading art fairs in the Netherlands, with a strong focus on contemporary and modern art. The fair attracts galleries and artists of international caliber and has built a reputation as a serious platform for emerging talent. The Rotterdam edition has its own character: a bit rawer, a bit more experimental than Amsterdam. Highly recommended for those who want to look beyond the established order.
Art Eindhoven
Art Eindhoven focuses on contemporary art and design, with a strong emphasis on emerging talent. The combination of art and design fits well with the city's identity, and the atmosphere is more accessible than you might expect from an art fair. Recommended for those living in the south who don't always want to travel to Amsterdam — and for those who believe that the most interesting art isn't always found in the Randstad.
TEFAF Maastricht
TEFAF — The European Fine Art Fair — is the most prestigious art fair in the Netherlands and among the most important in the world. Every March, the fair opens its doors at the MECC in Maastricht, with a carefully selected offering from some 270 international dealers and galleries. The spectrum ranges from antique furniture and old masters to contemporary art and rare objects — always of exceptional quality. TEFAF is not a fair for the average visitor, but for those who want to see what is offered at the absolute top level of the art world, it is an unforgettable experience.
OBJECT Rotterdam
OBJECT Rotterdam is the leading Dutch fair for applied art and design. Every February, designers, artisans, and artists present work at the intersection of art and function — from ceramics and glass to jewelry and textiles. The fair has its own intimate atmosphere and consciously focuses on direct contact between creator and visitor. For those who believe that art not only belongs on the wall but also fits in the hand, OBJECT is a must.

Art markets to visit this year
Besides the big fairs, there are charming art markets throughout the Netherlands that are equally worthwhile. Intimate, personal, and often free to visit — these are the places where you truly get to know the artist.
Art Markets Bergen (North Holland) — summer 2026
From July 3rd to August 30th, 2026, the picturesque village of Bergen in North Holland transforms into an artistic paradise every Thursday evening from 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The art market around the monumental Ruïnekerk provides a platform for local, regional, national, and international artists. The evening markets have a special atmosphere: admiring art as the sun sets, in one of the most beautiful villages in North Holland.
In addition to the weekly Thursday evening markets, there are also three special Sunday markets — on July 23rd, August 2nd, and August 16th — from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The offerings include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, and more. An absolute must-visit for anyone in the area during the summer.
Art Market Petit Montmartre Oirschot — Sunday, May 31, 2026
Around the charming Boterkerkje on the Vrijthof in Oirschot, the Art Market Petit Montmartre takes place every year. About 45 professional artists present their work to the sounds of jazz music, complemented by living statues and dance performances. The location — a historic church in one of Brabant's most beautiful villages — gives the market its unique character. Intimate, atmospheric, and high quality.
This year, the market will take place on Sunday, May 31, from 12 PM to 5 PM on the Vrijthof in Oirschot.

Art Market Rosmalen — Montmartre, Sunday, June 7, 2026
Every year, the KuBra Foundation transforms the entire center of Rosmalen into a characteristic Parisian artists' quarter. On the first Sunday of June, you'll feel like you're in France: live music with chansons, cozy terraces, and about a hundred artists presenting and selling their work. The variety is enormous — from paintings and prints to sculpture and mixed media. There's a children's corner where even the youngest visitors can draw, paint, and screen print. Admission is free, and there's ample parking.

Why visit an art market or art fair?
You can buy art through a website, a gallery, or an auction. But there's something all those channels can't offer: a conversation with the creator themselves.
At an art market, the artist is right next to their work. You can ask questions about the materials, the process, the choices made. You hear the story behind the work, and that story enriches the piece.
Direct connection. You buy directly from the maker. No intermediary, no gallery taking a margin. Just you and the artist.
Affordability. Art markets are pre-eminently the place for affordable art. Originals for €50, €100, €200 — it's the norm here, not the exception.
Discovery. You stumble upon artists you didn't know. Work you didn't expect. A style that moves you without you knowing why. That's the magic of an art market.
Tips for your visit
Go without a plan
The best discoveries are made when you're not looking for anything specific. Let yourself be surprised. Walk past everything, even works that don't immediately appeal to you. Sometimes a piece needs a little time.
Ask questions
Artists at a market are there precisely for the conversation. Ask about the materials, the process, the inspiration. A good artist won't find that a difficult question. They appreciate it.
Buy what you feel, not what you think you should feel
The best purchase is the one you can't explain. If something moves you, that's reason enough. Art doesn't have to match your sofa or your floor. It's allowed to surprise you.
Finally: a personal note
This year, I'm participating in the art markets in Oirschot (May 31) and Rosmalen (June 7), and I'll be exhibiting in the Terpkerkje in Urmond during the first two weekends of August. I'm looking forward to meeting people, talking about the work, and seeing how others react to what I create.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between an art fair and an art market?

Are art markets free to visit?
Most art markets in the Netherlands are free to enter, including the markets in Oirschot and Rosmalen. For major art fairs such as the Affordable Art Fair, KunstRAI, or PAN Amsterdam, an admission fee usually applies. Check the event's website for current information.
