Art print or original painting: what suits you?

You want art on your wall. But should it be an original, or is a print also acceptable? It's a question I get more often than you'd think. And the honest answer is: it depends on what you're looking for. Not just your budget, but what you want to feel when you see the work every day.

What is the difference between an art print and an original painting?

An original painting is unique. There is only one of it. It's hand-painted, bears the traces of the process, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. An art print is a high-quality reproduction of that original work, printed on quality paper. The same artistic intention, the same composition and color, but affordable and available in multiple copies. Both are art. The difference lies in exclusivity and price.

When do you choose an original painting?

You choose an original if you truly want to own the work. If you want to invest in something that doesn't exist anywhere else. Originals from KOJO Art cost between €150 and €275 and come with a certificate of authenticity. They are painted in acrylics on canvas or paper, directly from the artist. No gallery in between, no storage.

When do you choose an art print?

An art print is the smart choice if you want to decorate multiple spaces, want to "sample" an artist first, or have a limited budget. At KOJO Art, prints start from €10 for an A6 size. You get the same work, the same color, the same intention, but printed. Many people start with a print and later buy an original when they know the work suits them.

Is an art print real art?

Yes. An art print is real art if it's a high-quality print of an original work, made by the artist themselves. It's not a poster of a stock photo or a random illustration. At KOJO Art, all prints are based on original paintings by Jordy Koumans. The artistic choices, the color, the composition—that's all real. Only the medium differs.

"A print of an original work is not a compromise. It's a different way to own the same work."
Jordy Koumans, KOJO Art

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an art print and a poster?

An art print is a high-quality print of original artwork on heavy paper, often in a limited edition. A poster is typically a mass-produced product on thinner paper, without the artistic intent of the creator.

Does an art print come with a certificate?

Always with originals from KOJO Art. Not standard with prints, but the prints are signed by Jordy Koumans as part of the Print Club.

Can I exchange an art print for an original later?

That's not official policy, but feel free to contact me. I'm happy to discuss options.

Do you ship outside the Netherlands?

Yes, KOJO Art ships throughout Europe.
