Soho is Now Available – From Studio to Your Wall
Share
There's something special about the moment a painting is finished. After weeks of building layers, drying time, and carefully applying each color, there comes a point when you know: this is it. The work is complete.
For Soho , the first work in my New York Districts series , that moment came a few weeks ago. In my previous article, I took you through the creative process—from digital design to painting on canvas. Now it's time for the final steps: documenting the work, choosing a frame, and making it available.

Photographing Art: More Challenging Than You Think
Once the painting is finished, a new challenge begins: capturing it accurately. Photographing art is a skill in itself – you want to accurately capture the colors, reveal the texture, and convey the work's atmosphere. All without reflections or shadows disrupting the image.

For Soho, I tried various setups: natural light by a window, diffused light, and different angles to find the best view. The goal isn't to make the work look better than it is, but to present it as authentically as possible—so that online you get a good idea of what you see in person.
The colors of Soho—those warm earthy tones, muted pink accents, and industrial grays—must be just right. Too warm, and the work loses its balance; too cool, and the bohemian energy disappears. It's a process of fine-tuning until the digital rendering does justice to the physical work.

List Selection: How a List Changes Work
One of the questions I often get is: why do you offer different framing options? The answer is simple: a frame changes how you experience a work. It's not just a practical way to hang it, but also a key element of the presentation.
For Soho I work with De Lat Lijstenmakerij , who expertly make box frames in three finishes:
- Natural – Warm wood that enhances the earthy tones in the work
- Black – Sleek and modern, puts the focus entirely on the composition
- White – Light and minimalist, perfect for bright interiors

Each frame gives the work a different look. Natural feels organic and accessible, black adds drama and contrast, and white creates calm and clarity. The choice depends on your interior, your personal preference, and how you want the work to fit into the space.
Of course, the work is also available unframed – for those who wish to choose a frame themselves or present the work in a different way.

From Studio to Online: The Moment of Letting Go
There's something ambivalent about putting a work online. On the one hand, it's a relief—the work is finished, it's well-documented, and it can find its place. On the other hand, it's also a moment of letting go. A painting that's been sitting in your studio for weeks now becomes available to someone else.
But that's precisely what art is meant for: to find a place where it's seen, where it fills a space, where it becomes part of someone's daily environment. A painting in a studio is a work in progress. A painting on the wall is a work that lives.
For Soho, I hope it finds a home with someone who recognizes the energy of New York, or who appreciates the peace and balance of the composition. Someone who has the space for a work that can be both a statement and a place of calm.

The Beginning of the Series
Soho is the first district, but not the last. The New York Districts series continues to grow—each work with its own character, color palette, and story. After Soho, other neighborhoods, other energies, other interpretations of the city that never sleeps will follow.
Some works are already in development, others exist only as digital sketches or color studies. But they are coming. And just like with Soho, each work will make its own journey from digital design to canvas, from studio to photography, from frame to availability.
